Introducing Brickworks Established in 1913, the Brickworks was Canberra’s first industrial site. Clay quarried here was pressed and fired into the red brick that built Old Parliament House and a century of the city’s homes. Set in the quiet, leafy streets of Yarralumla, the site was tucked out of sight for decades. Now the kilns, the chimney and the quarry are being brought back to life as a place to live, gather and unwind. Brickworks is a precinct of homes, townhomes and apartments, held together by a heritage core — where all are welcome.

Five bespoke homes sit on the escarpment above the heritage core, each designed by a different Australian architect and each responding to the same brief — a timeless house, embedded in its garden. Living spaces are set to the north, with long views over the quarry parklands to Black Mountain. Inside, the palette is restrained and calm with brick, travertine and natural light, so the setting does the talking. Cellars, private wellness rooms and multi‑car garaging sit below, with sunken courtyards drawing daylight into every level. These are Yarralumla homes of a scale rarely offered.

Townhomes
A collection of 31 townhomes with architecture by Stewart Architecture and interiors by Phoebe Nicol. Stepped up the slope so that every home faces north and every home looks out over the Yarralumla tree canopy to Black Mountain. Each is addressed from a tree-lined walkway rather than a road, with cars kept to a central laneway and gardens rolling over the roofs of the garages below. The architecture draws on Canberra’s modernist houses with asymmetrical brick forms, long horizontal windows, integrated planters, while a central stair and clerestory bring light and air into the heart of each home. Double-height living, front and rear gardens, and the heritage core a short walk away.

Wellness sits at the centre of life at Brickworks, in the kilns themselves. A recovery bathhouse with magnesium pools, ice plunge, snow room and saunas, a day spa washed in the red of the clay it was built from, a gym and studios in the vaulted halls above. Beyond the kilns, a lap pool, tennis and padel courts and a wine bar, café, restaurant and bakery bring the precinct to life from morning to night. Everything you need to move, rest and gather is close to home.

In November 2026, the doors open to the Brickworks Display Gallery. Your first chance to experience the materials, craftsmanship, and the thinking behind Canberra’s most anticipated new address.
The opening release features 31 townhomes by Stewart Architecture and Phoebe Nicol, and five bespoke homes, set within the heritage landscape of the Yarralumla Brickworks. There will never be many and there will not be more like them.
